Focus

Step out of your comfort zone
and onto the rope.
Leave the safety of the ledge behind
and cling onto any illusion of hope
because the only thing below you is air.
If you slip and fail here,
there's no safety harness
or net.
You'll simply be dead,
no questions asked.

Staying calm and in the moment
is any unharnessed tightrope walker's goal.
If you lose your balance
or foothold,
you're going to fall.
That's a fact.

Similar to life,
there's little room for error.
You almost literally walk the razor's edge
except this time you know that death
is a hell of lot closer.
Therefor,
you're forced to keep your composure
and stay in the moment no matter what.

Is that the taste of sweat
or blood?
Did you fall with that wind gust?
Or did you finally say enough is enough
and push on towards the other side?
In order to step on the rope to begin with,
you must leave all fear behind.

Often times,
when on a wire,
several thoughts pop into your head.
One is knowing that,
if  you really wanted to,
you could be dead.
You could let yourself fall instead
of fighting to get to the other end.
There are no second chances.

There's a certain peacefulness to it all.
And the fact that you didn't fall
when that storm rolled in
with those twenty one mile an hour winds
makes my day.

Balance is essential.
There's simply no other way.
But when you step out onto that rope,
you better be ready to stare all of your fears in the face
and say
"No more."
You're going to walk across this
and you're going to survive.

Today is not the day
that you are going to die.
I know you can do it,
all you have to do is try.
