My Cell of Boredom

Out by a nearby clearing
Lurks an empty heritage
Passed on from days gone,
Where undiscerning devotion
Guides the naive following
Of this unsuspecting herd

Pressures breathe into an oath
That's unwillingly made my own

Reluctance refuses to uproot the stems
That drag along those abrasive frictions
Between who I am and what I aspire to be

By choosing to concede, rather than escape
I must carry the burden of the hunted lamb

Branded a scapegoat, I have chosen to stay

One's ideal may reign supreme
Among futile sources of reason
Hereafter, my meaningless words
Shall set in motion a new allegiance

The company I continue to keep
Nourishes my cell of boredom
And here is where I will remain...

A crippled man inside a shell of freedom
