Beneath the Surface of Glass and Malice

She once was the world, everything to me
Now she is but a whisper spoken among the trees
A budding rose in a red velvet dress
Her hair blowing gently in the wind’s caress
Beauty meant for eyes of the lords
To gaze upon her meant penalty
A cold death by the sword

Fevered nights along the moon swept shores
The waves crashing gently as she begged me more and more
A falling star that granted her one wish
For one short season of endless peaceful bliss
The summer of magical nights
But at the dawning Autumn’s curse
Came frigid evening’s blight

Beneath the surface of glass and malice
Sleeps a beauty, nothing less
Love upon a star became cold and callous
Eternally silent and statue-esque

Loneliness under Autumn’s full moon grace
Midnight hunting games haunting with dark bestial face
The lupine call shrouded in mystery
“What awaits in the dark but pure tragedy?”
Discovery in foggy moors
Of the slowly decaying bodies
Swept the dread curse among the shores

She came upon the torture chambers
The nights of fancy full of danger
She came unto hooks of flesh still meaty
Dripping blood into the mouth of her love, beastly
In his eyes shone rage like the devil
Screams of pain left him hard, in revel
He grasped her frail throat in his paws
And pulled her flesh slowly into his eager jaws

At morning come,
“What have I done?
This waste of late
Is too much to take
The child inside
Will never know life
But by my bite
He will know
The hunt of night,”

I took her to the place her wish came true
Where she could lay one last time beneath skies so blue
The waves could sing her lullabies again
As trees whisper her name away from men
I carried her into currents
Eager to take her body away
To sleep and end her torment

Beneath the surface of glass and malice
Sleeps a beauty, nothing less
Love upon a star became cold and callous
Eternally silent and statue-esque
