Signs Of Life
Aimlessly he floats
cold and alone
tethered to his vessel
crippled beyond repair
not unlike the planet
in whose orbit he wanders
Life sustaining oxygen flow
ebbs in his umbilical cord
nearing a state of hypoxic delirium
of a sudden he hears
the dulcet strains of an astral aria
beckoning him to escape the bonds
of his dreary, hopeless reality
to follow
he knows not who or what
only that its sensual melody
fills him with inexplicable joy
Perhaps an angel
sent to convey him to his eternal rest
or some extraterrestrial siren
seducing him to his doom
surveying the infinite expanse of space
he sees only profound darkness
save distant fields of stars
curiosity and want grow in tandem
he yells “who are you sweet spirit?
please show yourself
so that I may gaze, as well, on your beauty”
Tears leak from clenched eyelids
as, for his survival,
he desperately petitions deity
the hauntingly familiar music
in his ears crescendos
the provocative scent
of some not-yet-discovered flower
excites his olfactories
succulent lips pressed against his
send surges of electricity
throughout his spent body
his lungs fill with her rarefied air
He looks
and gasps awestruck
gazing on the most exquisite
female specimen
with mesmerizing eyes
like two spiraling galaxies
filling him with light
her welcoming smile
warms his soul
she whispers
“come weary traveler
and be one with me”
Emboldened by desire
he disconnects from his past
embarking with her
on a journey to his future
appearing in an instant
in her bed chamber
their now naked bodies entwined
she guides his hand
along her every inch of smooth skin
with trembling fingers
and warm kisses
he maps the voluptuous topography
of her heavenly body
Ready for him to explore her depths
she begs him
unfold the shimmering portal
unveiling her concealed cosmos
grasping his stiff probe
She leads him in
he plunges deep
touching the red hot
core of her Sun
