Whispers In Finnish
(Written for Miki's "Something Worth Writing" competition)
Bieber-fever reigns supreme
And Kim can’t decide what color to paint her nails.
Mother Hell has opened her dress
And a journalist is beheaded.
”Herra, anna meille anteeksi kaikki”
The birthday parties go on
And the sun continues to rise.
The Rider on the Black Horse swings his sickle
And a journalist is beheaded.
”Herra, anna meille anteeksi kaikki”
Babies are born
And every mall has a sale
While the politicians are making their own rules
And a journalist is beheaded.
”Herra, anna meille anteeksi kaikki”
I try to see beyond world,

As the guns of war open fire

Thanks for the read--I did that primarily to contrast the various importances in people's lives.
A wonderful write, MLavender. Acknowledging journalists is refreshing, as they are mostly not thought of much in the scenario of any events, be it covering war, exposing corruption, poverty or just social happenings. Sometimes the danger they expose themselves to, the tears they shed, the death they die while covering occurrences are forgotten. James Foley lost his life, in a land not his own, several years ago, nearer to home, 34 journos were killed in the town of Ampatuan in Maguindanao province, on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. They were covering a political event. When I was in Manila last year, two journos were gunned down in front of their office...I have seen photojournalists punched and their camera broken, because some people didn't like their photos taken when their sins were barred in court. And in this part of the world, Journos are paid stipends. But its passion that makes them work beyond their call of duty.
