Ghosts Of The Plantation

They are dancing

Glimpse them in the corner of your eye
In fleeting courtyard shadows
Melting in Twilight's embrace

As they fade away

You may catch the hint of a smile
An invitation to spend a while
In this old abandoned place

Servants tend to the grounds
Waiting for the Lady to return
She left on a cloudy Spring day
Seemingly earlier this year

For her reacquaintence
They do yearn
As if it was only yesterday
Home is where the heart is
Their hearts linger here

Keeping her things as they were

While time stands still

The season never changes
Never will

Each flower remains in bloom
Fresh whitewash on the window sills
Party guests in every bedroom
Blazing hearths for evening chills

Listen to them laugh and play
In the far away month of May
Walking hand in hand in expectation

On a quiet day when the wind is gentle
You can hear the voices whisper,

We are the Ghosts of the Plantation
