Everything Drifts

Three years now yet I continue to hold half a plate in my mouth.
One side mouths off to the reflection and hides in a plastic house,
While the other walks out and faces the world while it's still ten after nine.
I say "have a nice day" to my solid eyes.
And make sure the world in everyone else's mind is alright.

And I slap on a fake smile and say to them:
"Hey, oh, nobody knows but depression has its way to go.
You see, Robin Williams and Marilyn Monroe don't have to know,
But roller coasters drift up and they drift low,
But then again, so do our burdens.
Everything drifts, everything drifts,
Everything drifts away.
Say 'goodbye' to the pain of yesterday.
Everything drifts, everything drifts, everything drifts away."

She says, "No, it's okay, don't want to cause a scene for you."
And I say, "No, I'm fine, I don't want to lose you too."
I can't afford it anymore, it's half past eleven by now.
Oh, and by the way, yes, I'm still looking for ways to get out of this town.
Oh, and by the way, yes, I'm still looking for ways not to drown.

Isn't it funny how most of us are just looking for ways to kill time?
We're swallowed in our own worlds, too busy to be kind.
Looking for our pot of gold, looking for a real meaning.
Do you mind if I take some more? It seems I've lost my footing.
Yeah, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay if I'm shaken up inside.
