Existance

You open your eyes in your dark cage of existence, feeling your captor’s presence. Except they did not build the cage you are in, you did. Instead of metal bars, you are trapped by the lies you’ve told, the hearts you’ve broken and everything you have ever done wrong.
Body ties the knots in the ropes, keeping your wrists and ankles tightly bound, no chance for escape. He pokes at the bruises covering your body, reminding you that he is always there.
Time slides a finger under your chin and tilts your head up. You watch it slip past, dragging its sharp nails across your skin, reminding you that it is always there
Mind taunts your lips with her sweet breath, she gets almost close enough to kiss. She pauses and laughs oh so softly in your ear instead, reminding you that she is always there.
Love is a young child, running about, climbing all over your cage as if it were a playground. He is young and doesn’t understand that he could ruin everything. If he falls he would destroy the cage and let these monsters out. Love must be avoided.
Creation slips in every so often, giving you food and water. Her kind eyes distract you from this hell, but only for a moment, and then she is gone.
Pain works under Body and Mind, hurting you at their command. It looks with solemn eyes and tells you to ‘just ignore them’.
You feel inside of you that something is missing. The edges of your soul long for Love to return, and bring his friends Trust and Intimacy. They could break down the cage and everything would be…horrible. The rest of you remembers why it is locked up in the first place. You would lose control and kill Love and Trust, taking Intimacy as a hostage. It is safer if you remain trapped.
Trapped in this cage you will stay, living through this torture day after day, until you finally break. You feel it inside of you, a small crack, extending through your body until you fall through the bars in your cage.
Then you meet Nothing. They wrap their arms around and around you, choking you and kissing you and burning you and casting spells of relief over your body, all at the same time. You’ve never felt better, and you’ve never felt worse.
Your eyes fly open with a start. You sit up, in your own bed, in your own room, back in reality again. You realize it was all just a nightmare. You laugh softly to distill the uneasy feeling in your chest, before turning and trying to go back to sleep again. None of it was real, for you.
For me, this nightmare is my life. And I can never wake up.
