My Drugs Are Better Than Your Drugs.....
(Written for the "Drug of Enlightenment" competition)
Adriamycin, blushed like blood
Made my pee turn red;
A relationship of hate and love,
Without it, I would be dead.
Cytoxin made my hair fall out
And ignored my emotional pain,
For that was what my tears were about--
My tresses, down the drain.
Taxol was the drying one,
That shrivelled me to a corpse.
My nails fell off, it wasn't fun,
But everything grew back, of course.
Tamoxifen, for five years when
The others were all through.
Its damage, I could only mend
By wearing glasses as I do.
And now, Anastrazole
Until I'm fifty-two;
This one stiffens my joints, you know,
But then I will be through.
The only good thing, I've learned, is true
About chemo, I'd have to say,
It's made me look at life anew
And keeps my cancer at bay.
