Hi Abs, thanks for stopping by.  You can see my struggle.  I think things are far worse than "instant gratification".  To get a job you need a college degree.  To raise a child, you need to pay for the education.  Children are becoming more of a burden, people will  (have) stop having children.  Without children, what is the point of long term marriage.  Happiness only goes so far.  Life is tougher than happiness.  And in the end, as the last 5 to 10 yrs have shown, everything you thought was solid was built on sand anyway, and washes away with the political / economic tides...

Life's struggles are part of happiness, but I prefer a good struggle. I would never struggle for money, for example, nor struggle to meet the expectations of others, such as getting a car and fancy house, or expensive clothes or lavish dinners. My husband shares the same philosophy, so we live a simple reclusive life in the country, where our friends are earthy people whose struggles are much closer to the heart of happiness. It's hard to leave the rat-race society if you've been born into it, but as I have done, it isn't impossible ...

it's a long, demanding journey, & the best we can do is take brief interludes w/art, literature, poetry...

Thanks for the visit, JF.  And so true.  Maybe you've hit on the evolutionary reason we have the arts.  Survival of the fittest...
