Find Something Worth Living For

The purpose of life is not based on how many hits you get on youtube, likes on facebook, retweets on twitter, what the latest celebrity scandals are, its about finding meaning to your own existence through the real issues that have been swept under the filthy rug for so long.

Most people who grew up in this age of technology and explosion, or rather exploitation of social media outlets and console gaming have truely forgotten what it feels like to be human. They don't play sports outside anymore, bruise and cut their knees and elbows falling from their bikes and skateboards, rather they sit at their computers, stare blankly at their cellphones, or sit on the couch for hours on end with their gaming controller in hand, television in front of their eyes and kill, kill, kill emeny soldiers and civilians and for what, tell me, what gain? Self desensitization to human interaction? They aren't training for a popularity, or beauty contest, or a battle, but rank on a screen. Maybe they just post to try and give someone a glimpse of hope that things will get better, that this age of destruction and extinction will be over soon. Maybe some people don't play the violent games, but the driving or sports games, does that give them the skills to really perform such actions though? To drive a car at 180mph around a hairpin turn, to shoot a basketball from the 3 point line or a slap shot with a hockey puck? No! Smell the fresh air and breeze against your skin again, travel, take risks, make mistakes, go out and feel the world in your hands, and see for your own eyes what is out there before its too late.

What else have we lost in our ever so called advanced generation? The love and art of taking a photograph in the moment, as lasting memories should be captured. Instead we spend our time, a lot of time, trial and error preping ourselves, lighting, angle, yes all the right techniques, for that ever so perfect "who gives a fuck about your fake face" "Selfie", oh wait #. Life is not a cropped picture frame though. It is a troublesome journey through a thick forest of fear, rejection,  transformation and progression, wisdom, trauma, love, loss, confusion, confrontation, fun, laughter, and so, so much more. True beauty has become a beast of what the flesh now hides behind filters and photoshop. The world does still have many talented photographers, don't get me wrong, they have passion for their work, but lets leave the portrait taking to the professionals, please!

Aside from the obvious, our planet is slowly dying and its our own greedy, blind fault. Mother Nature has been furious in her onslaught of natural disasters, she is trying to cleanse herself yet we poison her body with waste, war, pollution, disease and kill everything she has given us. We feed her our dead, our radioactive run off, our scrap metal, our broken tables and chairs we cut from her trees. We fill her with sky scrapers, highways, shopping malls, amusements parks and it's all for us, our ease and entertainment. What have we even given back to her lately? Her beauty, and ours, is fading like an old black and white photograph in the sun, and I for one, can't help but look to the sky and wait for a shooting star to wish to live in a world where words from the heart made a difference. Actions have always spoken louder than words on this planet though, and maybe I've kept silent too long and kept to the page. Maybe it's time to act, and if my actions are out of line, well, who says I was ever standing in one?

I've been surrounded by what some call love and friendship, but in all honesty, I've fought against them all. I think it's time to fight for something new, something bigger than myself and what's around me. Maybe I am just a Dead Poet, trying to leave my mark on society, but when I do, you will remember my name.
