Another Peek Into Me

Yes, I'm still a lil southern belle
But the kind that I choose to be
The scared lil girl is all grown up
And chose to stand up and walk away

I still believe in facing each day with a smile
Only because I'm surrounded by beauty
Something as simple as peering out my window
At the trees swaying in the woods brings it out
But never again to cover up your depravity

I'm now a belle that loves to sing
Even though I cannot carry a tune
Lord knows if I hit a high note it's gonna hurt your ears
But there is no way that you could resist singing along
And getting totally engrossed in my glee

We do all have our very own scars and marks
Left by the parts of life that we could not control
The woman who stands before u
Wouldn't change a moment of my life
Without the pain I've suffered I wouldn't be me

I would never pretend that its been easy
I've spent lots of time and loads of cash
To exorcise my inner demons
As real healing started to kick in
The honest realization is they never leave us completely

Once that acceptance entered my life
I stopped expelling wasted energy on avoiding mirrors
No longer denying that it was her face staring back at me
Not a single person can deny the beauty of her face
Too bad her soul was void of any dignity

Yes, I'm stll a lil southern belle
I hope my survival gives somebody out there hope
There comes a time when we are each responsible
For the direction our own lives take
Just remember to give yourself permission to be happy
