Extending Courtesies

I was down that hole the one where loneliness lives
and I wanted out, you extended me a knife
I held on to it, gripping it tight, so tight
I felt the blade meet the bone, I was trying
and you were laughing and then you let go,

you watched me bleed, and I could hear you screaming
"why didn't you hold on",
but I'm at the bottom with the knife
and you're at the top smiling down on me,
I'm no forensic scientist but I think the clues are all there.

and so I learned to hold on to the knife
at the bottom of the pit
because it is your only friend and possibly
in that moment your only means for revenge,

just know I'll be back to return the favor.
