One and The Other

Let me tell you a story about One and The Other
It starts as one thing
And you probably know it ends
Not how it ends
But all we care is where the river takes us
Not how it bends
One wants one thing and The Other wants the other
Not the latter in the option, The Other literally wants One
Critically underestimating each other in the process
A fine mess indeed, you see
Where inspired passion lies in wait
And iron cast in fires sate
The ire in One and love in The Other
Real fairytale stuff, the stuff we dream
But the problem is we don't dream in color
So while The Other loves One, One does not love The Other
Logic dictates that The Other should cut their losses
But no one runs the Other's office
So The Other would chase after One's heart
Yes, that is a plan that just begs to fall apart
Crazy as it might seem, The Other already knows this
One, however, will be blind to The Other's intent
As consensual as they are One only thinks The Other is content
So foolishly gives The Other the power to confess with One's consent
And when love was quite literally in the air...
Shock pretty much ensued from there
Not the fairytale The Other was hoping for
Not the musical number that sings and sways
For years past days and leaves them in eternal bliss
The Other was instead left with this
The Other's proverbial death scene
But what could The Other do?
One certainly doesn't want what The Other wants
No matter how badly The Other just wants that One
You might think there's some grand scheme
That One would have a change of heart
That in the end the bells would ring
And the two would never part
But the end was never written
And the two no longer speak
So concludes the story of One and The Other
And how sometimes love is weak
