You stole my heart
the thief in the night
who snuck upon me by surprise
and held my heart right before my eyes

Exposing the darkness
I kept locked away
stood by me to fight them
refusing to run
saying you'll stay

You showed me
everything that was wrong
the bruises, the cuts
deep gashes beneath its surface
the wreck that it became

Them looking deep into my eyes
The walls crumbled down,
defenses broken, now bare
& showed you a glimpse of
what was inside

They showed you the storm
the ongoing battle that waged
Tears flowed silently down my cheeks
You came & wiped them away
and put me back on my feet

Those calm blue waters
against the shaking, muddy brown earth
quelling them
Together creating the beautiful scene
of you & me
