Image for the poem Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Bright stars and broad stripes
A banner that yet waves high in the sky, by dawns early light
Oh can't you see it, like the great north star that depicts just who we are
As we proudly hail, wearing it upon our sleeves all the way till twilight's last gleam

To the men and women who serve this great nation of ours, sacrificing their lives
A simple truth that lies and sears deeper than then that of a hot branding iron, a crest
Swearing it upon their hot breath
A vow, promising to serve and protect
Wearing upon their chest like a shield of faith and a sword by their side, taking up arms
To defend what ours

Providing us a security blanket
Keeping us all safe, so that we may all sleep peaceful at night
Crickets that play their violins
Serenade moonlight sonatas while she shed her luminous glow upon families
Affording us the great opportunity of american dreams, let freedom Reign
With a salute to the flag of The United States of America
Upon which we stand, one nation under God
With liberty and justice for all
