Words are False Idols
[Written for the " Metaphorically Speaking" Comp.]
it'd be disingenuous of me
to tell you to write;
since I no longer have a valid address
and you ran out of bartering words
a while ago...
'cause we're the crooked kind
thick as thieves; but with less honor
we tell the most beautiful lies
...and I am a magpie
rereading polished epistles
in all-consuming effigy
unable to resist
its inexorable shine

I was gonna suggest sticking shrine in to replace shine at the end of the first. might be a bit much though
I think both stanzas read and relate to each other very well, but also read well on their own and indeed reading the second and then the first. if you done that on purpose then its a really neat trick. if not, its still a neat trick
I think the poem itself is a triumph, a testament to your growth here and tip my cap accordingly. I'd wish you luck in The comp 'cept I've got one in there myself and I am most unsporting

I took into what you had said about being able to reverse the stanza to heart and put my own twist to it. While I admit that it wasn't done on purpose at first I think that it works out well.
