THE GAUNTLET
Lovers playing with fire
Enthralled with enormous desire
Blazing fires from within
Filled with lustful sin
Ran the gauntlet of censure
Forbidden games of pleasure
Weakness to temptation, fragile as a dove
Totally consumed with the flames of love
Souls burning in hell while still alive
Lovers’ thirst for nectars can not be deprived
Their love for each other can not be denied
Illicit affair, they now must hide
Do we condemn such illicit affair—
Forbidden love, is it really fair?
Before we drop the gauntlet of criticism
And drown in the sea of skepticism
Let it be known they are a match in heaven
But parental and church blessings, not given

I think it was Shakespeare who wrote "Nothing is either right or wrong but thinking makes it so"

One of the tricks of presenting more classical literature to a modern day world is that many fell unsure of language that is rarely used in today's communication. Being able to suggest a classical tone and yet present it in a form today's reader can digest is what you have done here. Write on!

You hit the bullseye with how you see what I was trying to achieve in this piece bro. JazzManor. By using the word "gauntlet" takes the reader back to the medieval ages, although it means something different as the poem suggested.
