Wind Chimes
posted on "homeless" comp.
He smiles and says you welcome
As these fools whom he fought for
Thank him for his service
As if he spent four tours
Serving burgers to the worthless
Now people deem him homeless
Because he sits on curbs with
Food out of trashcans
Barely scraping by
Because Love is dishonest
No one comes to save him
Even though he came to save them
And all he can remember
Is the bombing of children
The pain
The shame
And the fear
That one hollow heartless bullet
Would hit him right in the ear
And he would never be able to hear
His little girl's laugh again
You see her laugh was like wind chimes
Her laugh was his sunshine
In his darkest hour
And her laugh was his only place
Of true residence
It seems that the warfare
Scares everyone from putting pennies
In the freaking Cup of Hope
Even though they do not know
Only the war fared well
This soldier
Has not seen his daughter
In fifteen years
Because her mother
Did not want a husband
With one leg and no pockets
He had nothing good to show
For four tears
That rained down his cheeks
And four tours
That brought no actual winning
He can not seem to find
One citizen of the U S of A
To hand him a dime
All they ever want to say
Is thank you for your service
As if he spent four tours
Serving burgers to the worthless
He has not heard
His daughter laughing
For so long it hurts him
And we all wonder why
He does sleep by
