A Step behind ... A Step ahead

I was always consider to be that kid who was a step behind
Couldn't dance to save my life
Couldn't fight, sing or dress myself properly
Talking to girls was a confusing mess
I had no male figure to guide me
I had all the coordination and social graces of a baby giraffe
Bullied because I was small and always picked last
So was I a Step behind or a Step ahead

I had a few friends in those early years
Mostly, I was the butt of someones joke
I didn't realize this training was making me a better person

I'm now traveled ...
More than I can say about most
I've been to the Great Wall, climbed Mt. Fuji and felt the warm Egyptian sand under my toes

I grew and now cast a shadow that makes some nervous
I've  become a leader among men but still humbled as I learn from a child
So was I a Step behind or a Step ahead

I now don't have to fight with my hands
but I do have my weight up SO TRY ME NOW
A verbal assault from me makes most run for cover
I wear monogram shirts
I have a sense of style that uniquely mine
My wife is a step ahead of some and two steps ahead of most

When your times comes and it will...
It's just a matter of being prepared
Never think your not as good as those who tell you your not
Their short comings belong to them
and shouldn't be picked up by you

I was always a step ahead
I just needed to believe in myself
