I will not cry

like an unwilling fluorescent bulb my awareness flickers online
my sense of being cowers in the long shadows of this shattered union
saturated in loss fear of unending loneliness is blinding
immersed in my desire to reclaim the love I left on your skin
my memories grasp for a taste of the most vivid recollections

it's moments like this that I miss you the most

so long it's been since I've woken to your face, brushed your hair
from your eyes and with the softest kisses felt what you did to me
so long since my common thoughts shared main lines with your desires
and still every night finds me conjuring your ghost

we live in a world full of wasted love
and I would die for a little more time with you

I close my eyes and cross the lines into yesterday
though your fingerprints remain and your scent lines the breeze
I find myself standing alone gazing long into the abyss
the strength and intricate beauty of a well worn lace of love
revealed weak and fragile in now unlinked silk strands

simply, nowhere near strong enough to uphold memory

my realisations dipped in sorrow I suckle from poisonous memories
draining the last fickle sustenance from the emotional remains
cold acceptance slides down my throat and hits my gut like a stone
I can no longer deny and my throat retains the choice to breathe

but the story has been written
I know it cannot be changed
against my will I close the book
and pray, I will breathe again
