Nothing
Written May 9, 2012
I am nothing now
So when my heart implodes
And I am broken open
No one sees that I am gone
Until they feel hollow and assume
Only nothing has died
But how can nothing cry
Little salty bits of poetry
And bleed stanzas born of joy and sorrow
How can nothing love and break
Into portions made for mice
And still hope for tomorrow
To awaken and try to be nice
How can nothing fear a phony word
That ruins trust and drowns nations
But still lie to himself and say that
Everything is okay
When everything is more like the KKK
Lynching him in his backward
Burning his home down
And inhaling the smoke of the nearby trees
He would surely have to be nothing
I am nothing now
So when my heart implodes
And I am broken open
No one sees that I am gone
Until they feel hollow and assume
Only nothing has died
But how can nothing cry
Little salty bits of poetry
And bleed stanzas born of joy and sorrow
How can nothing love and break
Into portions made for mice
And still hope for tomorrow
To awaken and try to be nice
How can nothing fear a phony word
That ruins trust and drowns nations
But still lie to himself and say that
Everything is okay
When everything is more like the KKK
Lynching him in his backward
Burning his home down
And inhaling the smoke of the nearby trees
He would surely have to be nothing
