SOLITARY CONFINEMENT
The bolt slides free
awakening with a start
the solitary prisoner
shrunken by age
by disuse atrophied
huddles for warmth
pale, flaccid flesh
pressing mossy walls
A shaft of brilliant light
illuminates his world
the stale odor of confinement
is made sweet
by a mélange of vanilla
and a garden of flowers
the filtered rays of sunlight
accentuate the silhouette
of an earthbound angel
peering through the now open door
A visitor? He ponders
many years have passed
since last he was visited
daily, solitary exercise
are his only solace
alone with his fantasies
imaginary pleasure
make-believe lovers
A sultry whisper
pierces his reverie
she beckons him
abandon his cruel keep
enthralled by the voice
escaping her ruby lips
hypnotized
he inches toward freedom
Recoiling at first
greeted by a cool breeze
he warms and blushes
his anticipation growing
as blood races to his head
responding to her firm
gentle grasp
soft lips travel slowly
the length
of his now crimson flesh
she consumes him entirely
unable to contain his elation
exploding with joy
she gazes hungrily
seductively smiles
her face glistens
with his excitement
Utterly spent
limp with exhaustion
reluctantly he retreats
toward his solitude
she lifts his head
kissing him goodbye
her tongue explores
for the last time
his gaping mouth
I’ll visit again, soon
she promises
he longs for that to be true
