Night and Sky

He went outside the other night.
And just stood there looking at the sky.

He told us that he forgot what the sky was...

Well of course his intellect was in tact,
He knew what was the Earth and the weather and the atmosphere,
And all the stars and the galaxies and the universe.

He just couldn't remember
What he was supposed to get out of the sky.

What am I supposed to get out of it?, he thought.
What am I supposed to see when I look at it?

He liked the look of the sky.
How it was a reflection,
Of stillness, of sameness.

He had no particular thoughts that night.
Just the looking at the sky.
Just the sky being there.

I know if I keep looking at it,
Maybe I'll see something I'm not supposed to see.

Maybe I'll think of something that I wouldn't have thought of,
Had I looked at something else, or just plain simply,
Had I been doing something else.

He pondered about that sky.
It was the same sky.
It was a plain sky.

Nothing particular about it that night.

Maybe it was just the current amount of time he had,
Where he didn't have to be particularly located anywhere,
Nor later on in the morning the next day.
And maybe it was all the circumstances of his life,
Converging all at once to this moment,
This blank mindset for a couple of hours;

Maybe it was something like that,
But at this time, and in this state of blank-thoughtness,
He just didn't care, and generally dismissed it.

No, it was just him and the sky.

He thought,
Well maybe by looking at the sky, you know,
I'll figure out the meaning to everything of life,
Why this, why that, why all of it, etc..

Maybe if I look at it a real long time,
Or I perturb my eyeballs and look at the sky real hard,
Maybe then I'll figure It all out.

Naturally, he dismissed that thought too.
But he still liked to look at the sky,
Thinking that you can see the Meaning of Life
By looking at the sky.

That's just silly, he thought,
I'll never 100% believe it!

But I'll still look at the sky,
Thinking I'll learn the Meaning of Life by doing so.

And even if I don't learn the Meaning of Life,
By looking at the sky,
(Even if the sky doesn't do that for people),
I'll still look at it anyway!

I like looking at the sky!
It's a good enough reason for it to be there!

And so after a couple of hours, he went back inside.
No great insights, no new meanings.
Maybe a few things to say to friends in future emails.
But nothing overall had changed with his existence.

It was just a night and it's sky.
