The Tempest

A Tempest came, and while I slept, it eagerly destroyed
the illusions that had held me fast, showing me the void
An emptiness I didnt know, had crept within me deep
the deluge rightly exposed what I had neglected in my sleep
Careworn timbers that once right and true would have kept the maelstrom at bay
buckled once tested easily, dry rotted, and weakened with decay
with tearstained eyes, I look upon the the wreckage, I had once adored
and realize that, with quite some work, it must be now restored
with heavy heart I know new beams must be hewn and shorn
and from this labor of love, my strength will be reborn.
