Salmon Sun And Aqua Waves
(Written for HarleyQuinn's "Seeing For The Blind" competition)
Salmon is the warmth
Of the first morning heat of the sun
As it peaks the horizon,
That place where the water meets the sky.
Reach out to it—
It enlivens your skin to the blush of pink.
Aqua,
Is the rush of the tide
As it billows in waves,
Flinging their peaks across the shore.
You stand
In sand;
Tan.
A cool foundation upon which all rides,
Sinking a little,
But still durable to bear the weight of the world.
Gray are the lost feathers
Of the sea-birds
Squaking, calling to one another,
Padding through puddles,
Watching for something only they can see.
White is the smell of the salt,
Dried upon the shells;
Hard, little bones cast about
From their former owners who have moved on,
No longer needing the alabaster-like covering,
For they are free,
As are you
Without vision to hold you back
From dreaming this world how you think it should be seen
And how you want it to be seen,
Not as it actually is.
There are no boundaries.
