Flowers at the Door

Every morning I would wait
To bring her flowers at the door
I was so young and naïve
To believe someone like her
Would fall for me

So today,as I always had,
Brought her flowers at the door
Should a bee be without honey?
Or the sky not so sunny?
To have her without them in her hands
Would be a crime

On the day of her graduation
I wanted to profess my love for her
Or to tell her thank you
For the kind words and thanks she
Had given me, like presents every day

I choked up and got scared
And thought “she has her whole life ahead of her”
I’ll just hold her back
So where we first met every morning
I put the flowers that I brought for her
At the door.

They are still there today.
