Now, The Night

When I was young, the night was far too long
With too many demons creeping in the stillness
With too many dragons breathing in the darkness
When I was young, the night brought black horses
All of them nicknamed ‘night’

Now the night is not long enough
I lay next to her and weep
Knowing all I have is her sleep
Now the night slaps the dawn awake
And pulls the covers back to light the day

While I grew, the days were far too bright
With too many white hot spots feeling for me
With too many pure beings grasping around me
While I grew, the day brought burning ashes of night
All of them covered in truth

Now the night is not long enough
I lay next to him and weep
Knowing all I have is his sleep
Now the night slaps the dawn awake
And pulls the covers back to light the day

What if as I age, the moments aren’t long enough
With too many boxes of secrets laying dusty and unopened
With too many painful touches, even featherlight ones
What if my age only shows when im wary of others
All of the others who have tried

Now the night is not long enough
I lay alone and weep
Knowing all I have is a lack of sleep
Now the night slaps the dawn awake
And pulls the covers back to light the day

Now the night wants my soul
Pulling back my skin to look for answers
Now the night takes them along with my sleep
Now the night again, lingers far too long
Now the night is far too long
