Beltane's Tree
Turns the year, season's circle,
Vibrant, verdant life returns
Beneath the fertile, fecund field
Roots anchor deep in rain-drenched soil.
Within each new leaf unfurled,
Throughout every brittle winter branch,
Joy and vitality gradually flow--
Sagacious, stretching, they reach forward.
In supplication to the Heavens
Arthritic fingers seek the sun--
Life-sustaining, heat-bathing
The gnarled and twisted, aging trunk,
Battled-scarred by lightning's rapiers
And lover's tattooed tributes.
A gentle breeze sighs and whispers,
Dappled sunlight patterns shift
As leaves applaud day's re-creation--
Fragile ivory flowers tremble;
Blossom-scented silence broken,
The bees' buzz, thrums.
Emerald hearts and chartreuse spirits,
Their youthful souls with Nature meshed--
A gentle jocund being watches
Young lovers bound by Beltane's spell.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: This poem was inspired by the Celtic/Wiccan
celebration of Beltane, on May 1st. Governed by
the Hawthorn tree, this day celebrates the union
between two lovers and the bond of intimacy.
Beltane also honors the Rites of Spring, and
rebirth in the forms of flowers, food, and of
all things living of this Earth.

A majestic unfurling of the life force... Everyone waits for spring! So elegantly painted here, Dark Enchantress.

Thank you so very, much, my Friend, for your 'elegant' comments, as well.
Spring cannot come soon enough for me--especially this year!! (gol!)
I sincerely appreciate your visits, and I am happy that words were able to paint such a vivid picture on your mind's canvass.

This is just FABULOUS, Enchantress! An exquisite earthy image you've photographed with words, beautifully.
"In supplication to the Heavens
Arthritic fingers seek the sun--
Life-sustaining, heat-bathing"<--gosh, that's lovely.
Good luck with the comp. Xo

Enchanted one
Yep, there's certainly a magic rooted in your words. starts of really well with 'turns the year' and keeps its momentum going in what seems like and effortless translation of thoughts.
Again, your language and choice of words are impeccable and read well thought out and placed.
I've been mulling over battle v battled, and though I like the thoughts of battled scarred, I think in terms of reading aloud it might be a small hindrance to the flowing of the words.
it's hard to pick a favorite stanza here because they all have something that gives them that poetic glow.
whatever you're doing, you're doing it right
great stuff, shine on

Mo Chara,
Your comments always just seem to have a unique way of reaching a certain place--deep in my very spirit--and making me believe that all of my efforts are worthwhile. Thank you for your thoughtfulness!
But, always the sly one, when it comes to your specifically keen insight, are you not? (gol!) I do understand about the particular pairing of 'hard'(more emphasized) consonant sounds-"B";"T"-- with the softer, (less stressed) blend 0f "sc"...with respect to the challenge this often creates during a reading.
Yet, with practice, reading this paring of 'hard', and 'soft' consonant sounds, is easily over come, and the integrity of the flow, remains intact.
(Personally, it is more of a challenge to read aloud 'lightning's rapiers'--go figure, lol!)
Anyhow, thanks for your suggestion. It is appreciated--indeed!!

Dear Enchantress these words bring in the promise of spring - both fecund and jocund - very much enjoyed its joy:

I'll drink to that!
