Med Clare

A Galleon holds treasure deep within
Underneath its full white sails
That billow in the angry or calm wind
While pirates hold on to the rails

I want to be held like that
Safe like that
Away from dangers like that
Floating without knowing
Like that

An oyster holds its pearl inside where it’s dark
Underneath its grown-up shell
That protects what’s it holds from the diver’s mark
In a cave where mermaids once fell

I want to be held like that
Safe like that
Away from dangers like that
Floating without knowing
Like that

A box holds an amulet deep in soft folds of silk and velvet
Locked away for safe-keeping
Nothing can reach it there, no fire, no storm, nothing wet
In a place serene as a white dove’s wing

I want to be held like that
Safe like that
Away from dangers like that
Floating without knowing
Like that

I want to be held like that
Warm like that
Wrapped in someone’s arms like that
Sleeping without dreaming
Like that
