The Story Of The Dueling Dragons

The best way I can tell the story is like this

There was one time a black dragon and
He reared his ugly head at such a young age
Such a young age for his prey that is
The prey was not expecting it
For her beautiful swan to become a black dragon
A dragon of hate and fear and lust and sin

The dragon moved through her soul
He changed shapes often but at night
Was always the same black dragon
Once he was a shy and soft  fledgling
In need of prey’s help and prey helps
Only to be laughed at, thrown down again

There came a point when black dragon ran away
Slipped away in the light of day
Never to be seen again
Except in prey’s nightmares, daymares, thoughts
And prey grew up, grew tall and grew brave
Until prey met the red dragon

Red dragon may have been more fierce than black
Maybe not, prey cannot tell the difference anymore
For prey they are one in the same even though they aren’t
Red dragon was slower to torture, to take
But did, oh he did, took more than as allowed
And flung it to the river

The dragons, they fight for prey’s mind
Everyday, every night in every way they can
And oh how prey tries to escape their claws
Their talons of greed and panic and terror
While they chew on prey’s soul and sip on prey’s tears
And then there was the ghost dragon

Perhaps ghost dragon was the gentlest
Or at least the quietest
Coming without notice or warning
Taking prey’s family, prey’s children, prey’s mother
Until prey had nothing left but a father and a sister
Prey reached out to them but they turned away

Everyday prey wrestles the dragons
Who somehow will not break free
Maybe prey keeps them locked up too tightly
And they cannot break the bars to leave
Maybe prey has hidden the key somewhere
Because they don’t need to fly and haunt another prey

Maybe prey is hoping they die in there
In the darkness of prey’s mind
Three dragons in one dark space
Dueling to the death for their life to live on
For prey’s soul and mind to waver and fall

To keep prey’s arms from reaching out so
Someone else can hear them
So someone can try to help
Let them out
Let prey free
