The I In This Relationship

A change in tone and I'm under the blinding bright lights again
He's dressed in spotless white with a knife ready
Nothing to numb just in the sharp metal plunge
Slice from my chest to my stomach in a capital I
Peel back the thin skin that covered the mess inside
Pound on my chest, break the cage that holds my heart
His strong fingers hook under the bones and lift it out with a tug
Expose the delicate, frantic pulsing beneath
I'm sunken, less and raw
Desperately, discretely I hide the darkness behind large organs
His un-gloved hands carelessly push the masses aside
In search of what I attempt to confide
It moves behind the skeleton of my arm as I try to prop myself up
And face the man that's oh so rough
Instantly he takes the bones out, leaving me totally limp
The dark moves under muscle making me seem tough but his fingers rip
It moves behind arteries, the vibration of my nervous pulse making it difficult to harbor
Suspicion leads him there too where he chases it to the capillaries.
No where left to go and already revealed
My insides a monstrosity that stained his white coat and floor beneath
In shock because of pain as tears stream fast as blood in veins
But despite the knife, I'm not the victim
He has to destroy the love of his life just to find she concealed a heart breaking vice
