Ib (heart)

The Heart, of it, so much can be said both in happiness and regret,
in ancient Egypt this part of the soul was thought to be very important;
The Ib or metaphysical heart was believed to be formed,
during conception, from one drop of blood from the child's mother's heart.

Believed to be the seat of emotion, thought, will, intention
and key to the afterlife, of all our actions, the engine.
Your intent, whether noble or base, all aggrieve
that you have caused and  all that you possibly conceived.

“The road to hell is paved with good intention”

The heart is thought to survive death in the nether world
where it gives evidence for, or against, its possessor.
Your every decision is called into question or confirmed,
judged as worthy or fuel for your transgressions.

In the nether world the heart is examined by Anubis
during the Weighing of the Heart ceremony,
There, before all in attendance, on the great scale of life
your heart will be weighed for its wrongs and its rights.

If the heart weighs more than the feather of Maat,
it is immediately consumed by the monster Ammit.
Extinguished from the afterlife’s eternal light;
a terrible fate for having squandered your ultimate gift, life

a human soul was made up of five parts:
the Ren, the Ba, the Ka, the Sheut, and the Ib.
