Found on a Starry Night
As we sprawled out on his truck bed,
Swaddled from the country cold;
Counting stars one by one,
Two by two.
Watching blue tails streak by-
I was touched to the soul.
Found my puzzle fitting in.
That in this field of open grass,
High curved skies
That stretched beyond my longing hands,
Someone would sit, and stare,
At this lonely sky with me.
Marvel at its mystery,
Breath in its embrace,
Hold its loneliness,
And blaze like a tiny flame.
As we sprawled out in his truck bed,
Swaddled from the country cold.
With an open heart
And words I did not know to say,
I found myself mended- of all pains.
Beneath the vast heavens,
My witness being the night,
Never have I loved a man more,
Than when I found my dad.
Swaddled from the country cold;
Counting stars one by one,
Two by two.
Watching blue tails streak by-
I was touched to the soul.
Found my puzzle fitting in.
That in this field of open grass,
High curved skies
That stretched beyond my longing hands,
Someone would sit, and stare,
At this lonely sky with me.
Marvel at its mystery,
Breath in its embrace,
Hold its loneliness,
And blaze like a tiny flame.
As we sprawled out in his truck bed,
Swaddled from the country cold.
With an open heart
And words I did not know to say,
I found myself mended- of all pains.
Beneath the vast heavens,
My witness being the night,
Never have I loved a man more,
Than when I found my dad.
