Pungent***

from the richest soils in this land
sprouting from the earth i stretched my hand
i didn't ask to be picked,i was chosen
see poetry needed something wholesome
unique and fresh,nutritious and healthy
organic and home grown and downright funky
i grew from just a tiny seed
to inspire thoughts and plant good deeds
i'm deep DISHED AND southern fried
with a lil something on the side
i pack flavor for all your fixings
pungent as the scents from grandmas kitchen
wild herb wisdom, with a funkdafied flow
follow your nose to where pungent truth grows

southern roots thick as bamboo shoots
country as cut off shorts and cowboy boots
country as drinking moonshine laying in the shade
backyard bbqs, fish frys and dominoes or spades
tangy and sweet as fresh squeezed lemonade
my hair in ponytail, cornrows, or french braids
whether i rock an afro or hair weave down to my waist
thick as molasses, sugar sweet smile on my face
soft and smooth as butter
smelling like cocoa butter
at times quick to cuss out a mutherf*cker
can roll my eyes like no other
but my momma taught me how to act
when to be tenacious and when to have tact
always a southern belle and that's a fact
feline as a tigress or sweet kitty cat
hands always on my hips
when i dance my backbone slip
walk as graceful as a tree in the breeze
backside shaking like the leaves

southern as buttermilk and cornbread
fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs
muscadine wine and pickled pigs feet
sitting on the porch sucking on sunflower seeds
eating koolaid pickles and lemonheads
playing double dutch and Simon says
hop scotch and tag your it
spin da bottle and hide and go get it:)
country as tin roof, when it rain it leaks
but i swear to God,you get the best sleep
its like angels singing a lullaby soft and sweet
like a heartbeat tapping,its a heavenly beat
i'm as country as a cousin named Earl
southern as the landscape that maps my world
but city slick the way my words unfurl
guess u could call it the best of both worlds
i have my own style and unique flavor
pungent and savory spice to savor
