House of Moving Trees

The forest is dark today
Dare I make some light?
Dare I move some shadows
     And make room for right?

I hear a creaking near the entrance
A thumping near the pool
A muted scream by the river
And scratching across the floor

The forest is dark today
Yet something scuttles in the underbrush
Trying to escape, run away
Trying to breathe with a muted hush

I see circles of trees marching inward
A branch reaching near the caves
A root extending over the precipice
And stretching across the crag

The forest is dark today
No tendrils of morning glory waking uncurled
No silent mushrooms circling the glade
Making a circle to another world

I found footprints of great magnitude
Meaning the trees have walked
Meaning the trees have moved
And changed the layout of their house

The forest is dark today
I think as I pull back the vines
I think as I let in some light
Its time to let the sunlight shine
