Take Me (with You When You Go)

Wooden slats slap slap against my feet
Bare and wet with ocean mist
The length of dock stretches out before me
And all I can do is run to the edge
To the green sea
To where you wait for me
Shirt unbuttoned, billowing
Like the sail behind you
Full and waiting
So take me
Take me with you

Barnacles rough and red creep up
The pier over here and over there
The waves rush in and the waves rush out
And all I can do it run to the edge
To where the sand meets the sea
To where you wait for me
Pants rolls to your knees
Laughing like the sun behind you
Bright and shining
So take me
Take me with you

All at once I’m there, there to where you stand
Breath catching, arms reaching, feet stopping
The air seems to still and quiet
All I can do is look over the edge
To where your boat gently taps the dock
To where you wait for me
With longing, with desire, with hope
Something stops me
But you want to take me
Take me with you when you go

And I cant breathe, and I cant see
All I can hear is the song in the sea
Singing take me take me
Take me with you
And I long to and I yearn to go with you
So just take me
Make me go
Just take me with you
When you go
