Sole to Soul

If you want your soul to be grounded put your soles on the
ground. It can remind you of many important things. After the
long months of winter boots and wool socks there is an immense
sigh of relief from each of your toes as they wriggle freely in
the open air. You suddenly notice every step again. When you
walk in the shade the coolness caresses your pads and when you
leap onto searing concrete it brings quickness to each step.
You begin to step lighter in general because even the smallest
pebble causes pressure. With sensitivity and awareness you
become mindful of your surroundings, aware of oncoming dangers-
for your soft soles must be protected. Over time the initial
pleasure of being barefoot may begin to fade. There may be a
patch of thistles or scratchy grass and being bare foot will
bring its challenges. But being consistently bare makes your
soles/soul begin to toughen up. Eventually this raw state will
gain a protective barrier and no terrain will seem unbearable.
You also learn to live without the places that caused you pain.
Going there was important, but now you have found a new path
which compliments your bareness. Soles and souls have a lot to
do with each other. Enlightenment is not far from kicking off
your kicks and learning to work with the earth again.
