I don't get it

I don't get this love thing, in fact does anyone?
How can something that complicated be meant for everyone!?
I mean..."if you love 'em, let them go"...really?
Why would I let you go if love is to keep you near me?
 
I used to think, until I stopped beacause it gave me bad ideas.
Anyway, I used to think we all had soul-mates.
Imagine that, having someone who was made just for you,
a "perfect for me" soul that I could come home too.
It's a rare thing to find someone you can annoy for the rest of your life,
Blessings and best wishes to those men lucky enough to have found a wife.
 
And what's with the sacrifices and all the giving?
Is love not supposed to have a little receiving?
Because what do i get in return after I give you my all,
a hammer, and a map to a heart behind a wall.
and we all know how well women draw maps,
and how great men can follow directions...
To top it all off, in case you're not yet mental,
I have to use that hammer and I'm supposed to be gentle???

Don't even get me started on break-ups,
usually caused by someone's hold ups
it starts with the "I hate you, how could you do this to me"
then somehow turns to "I miss you, what are you up too, when are you free?"
and that totally messes with my head coz clearly I still love you.
Why the hell do I let you in when I'm trying to get over you?
