My first idea on the third line was quite similar but far too sexually orientated for the love category. So I opted for the current line :-(. Too shy, I guess :-).

Question: Why the (well, not only) dative/direction indicating particle 'ni' with Chiyo? Can't find my Japanese grammar book :-(.

Ever since you posed this question I've been searching for the explanation for my edification as well ... And still haven't found out why : (

I just finished a short volume of haiku by David Cobb, and it mentions she was known as Chiyo-ni and Chiyo-jo as well.

She is mentioned as Chiyo-ni and Kaga no Chiyo, too.
I'm still investigating ... Thanks for your response. Tell me, please, when/if you find an explanation!
