A Seed

A seed is all that I may be
But in the end, I’ll be a tree
I will give shade to any friend
They’ll make their homes upon my limbs

But growing tall seems far away
And I may freeze before its day
The breeze and darkness all surround
I am alone upon this ground

The night is long, where is the sun?
My empty life I have become
I’ll make a friendship with the mud
I’ll crack my shell and spill my blood

The permeating warmth I feel
Reminding me that I am real
I have a purpose and a prose
Just as the thorn is to the rose

The songs I hear run through the air
Without a case, now I am bare
Exposed, unknown, unsheltered too
That’s what life will do to you

I dig my roots into the ground
The wind no longer knocks me down
I drink the rain that pours on me
It will not stop (I grow to see)

I felt forgotten and alone,
I felt abandoned from my home
The pain will make me who I am
The grandest tree in all the land

As years pass, I do suffer
The bitter snow I do endure
A storm will not uproot my tree
Or give me reason not to be

A seed is small, as you may feel
But treat the weather as a wheel,
Use the storm to make you grow
You will live long if this you sow
