An Army of Ropes
A voice from behind that you fail to hear
The creature that lurks and screams in your ear
If under the bed, if all in your head
The ones in the dark will not sleep til you're dead
If you so chose to fight for your meal
They'll nail down your feet and open your heel
Forward you'll fall leaving face on the ground
An army of ropes will be tying you down
Beaten and lapsed and despaired are your hopes
With blood and then dirt and then tears in your throat
A glimpse of the past, you now hear what they say
They're all chanting softly, they're speaking your name
The whisper you heard on that first fateful day
A start from beginning, they stole you away
They feasted your flesh and consumed even bone
Yet, up on a hill a light does still show
Where was this light when you needed it most?
Was it still there when you chose your new host?
It shone even brighter when you turned away
He screamed and He cried as He called out your name
But you didn't hear the whip on His back
And you didn't feel the Earth that was cracked
And you didn't see the words on the stone
No, you didn't make a big ship your new home
Now you remember the tales you were told
You thought them fables and grew your heart cold
We are all lost until we are found
We are all dust until we are ground
Like sweat on a glass we have one way to run
A day turns to years and then we are done
We can chose life or instead chose decay
Now, for yourself what do you have to say?
The creature that lurks and screams in your ear
If under the bed, if all in your head
The ones in the dark will not sleep til you're dead
If you so chose to fight for your meal
They'll nail down your feet and open your heel
Forward you'll fall leaving face on the ground
An army of ropes will be tying you down
Beaten and lapsed and despaired are your hopes
With blood and then dirt and then tears in your throat
A glimpse of the past, you now hear what they say
They're all chanting softly, they're speaking your name
The whisper you heard on that first fateful day
