rock bottom inn

i was living on hell's lower side
at the rock bottom inn
knowing all the while
it was only temporary
that's where i met sweet annie
she opened up my eyes
helped me shed my self-pity
though my step was yet unsteady
unlike her, i would one day leave

today, i saw ms. corrine and
she was so very sad
told me she knew
through pure common sense
she can't bring back
those whom she dearly loves
that have already passed
there's nowhere to go
when the tears begin to flow
at the rock bottom inn

i put a smile on my face
did my best to
cheer up the guests
helped me get outside my self
kept my chin up all the while
'cause there's only one way up
when you've reached
the final floor at
the rock bottom inn
