To undermine.
To lessen.
To weaken.
A word synonymous with small.
Weak.
Childish.
Young.
Uninformed.
A word used to dismiss.
"She’s just a girl."
"She doesn’t get it."
"She’s too young."
"She’ll grow out of it."
Girl is a word used to bring us down.
To silence us.
To startle us.
To agitate us.
To make us feel unimportant.
It is used as a tool by those threatened by us.
Those who know we are more.
Those who would have you believe that I am useless
Simply because they know I can tear them to pieces.
I am not just a girl.
I am not weak.
I am not foolish.
I am not your ideals, waiting for you to sculpt into your preferences.
I am so much more.
I am things you will never comprehend.
I am strength.
I am knowledge.
I am mine.
I am mine, and no one else’s.
I am not just a girl.
I am power.
I am destruction.
I am refuge.
I am love.
I am your biggest fear.
I am a threat.
I can eviscerate everything you know at the slightest whim.
I am not just a girl.
In fact, I am not a girl at all.
I am a storm with skin.
With the ability to wipe you out in seconds.
so do not anger me.
Do not patronize me.
Do not treat me as anything less than an equal.
Because storms are unpredictable.
And one day this skin will burst and the tempest inside will be unleashed.
