You're just not him
I'm sorry, my friend
But you're just not him.
When you kissed me last night
By the street corner light
I was saying his name in the back of my mind
I tried to picture his face
While you were looking at mine
Those were flattering lines
And nice words to say
While you were begging me to stay
Because you just can't stand a minute of time away
But even your best attempts just can't erase
What's really on my mind
These are all the things I wish he would say
And why, oh why, can't he feel this way
You see, my friend
The truth of me is that I'm fully
Head over heels, entirely in love
With another man
And though he left me standing alone
My heart is still sitting in his hands
So I'm afraid, despite what you do
I won't be able to offer what you need
My heart still beats
But lacks the capacity for you
Because you're just not him
I'm admit, my friend
When you took my hand
I couldn't help but pretend
They were his in mine
And my thoughts didn't change
When you explained
How long you've had to wait
For a girl like me to come your way
I know you're words are genuine but they still can't erase
what's really on my mind
I'm never gonna find anything the same
Why, oh why, can't he feel this way
You asked me why
I couldn't give you a try
Every woman needs a good man
But I don't expect you to understand
I once had something that can't be replaced
And he's always on my mind
I just don't have the space
To try something new
Even for a good man like you
There's nowhere for us to even begin
Because you're just not him.
I'm sorry, my friend
But you're just not him
But you're just not him.
