Naivety - trigger warning

You don't go into a situation
knowing, to a tee, the outcome.
So I can't be to blame
for what happened.


It always starts
with being young, and stupid and
I-­didn't­-know.
I'm not any different.


I was naive,
and losing my best friend
in leaps and bounds,
which she called experiences.
I could match her one,
so we all got drunk.


I like to think,
that I'm not the only one who impaired
their judgment.
I like to think
that he couldn't be that cruel in person.


'No' doesn't mean the same thing,
when slurred through lips
pressed against
something unpleasant.
It was easier not to fight.


He was bigger, stronger,
and more determined
to get his way.
I should be flattered,
yes, he was a god
of a boy, could easily do better
than a drunk girl who had never
'done this sort of thing before'


Besides, I started it.
He finished it.


Finished it all over
my front, and hands,
nipping off to clean up
and rest
his swirling head.


I held onto
delusions of wanting

I could even wake up,
with the fantasy,
that consent was both ways,
and the alcohol was simply
the removal of insecurity
on both sides.

And yes, I could be that dumb,

It's a typical enough situation,
that I have become use to
'keeping it to ourselves',
and I expect nothing,
because they can do better.
They always can do better.
