He is...

He's an onion;
layered in sweet complexity.
And as I cut him open he burns my eyes.
Conscious of the self inflicted suffering,
I cry tears of joy and determination,
fostering the truth that he dares deny.
And love's way, often parched and hard,
draws me closer to his brilliance.
I smile as he smiles.

He is a sunrise.
At a distance he glows and
up close he blinds me by his overwhelming incandescence.
He is a new day but he
doesn't know how to start over.
He has blinded many. He has burnt many.
He asks me not to let him hurt me.
He doesn't know that the morning is my favourite time of day.
I love the feeling of being burnt and shedding tears.
It reminds me that I am alive and that I am mortal.

He is a roller coaster.
His ups and downs are a thrill.
He spins me around and turns me over.
Heels over head. Head over heels.
I scream as he plunges me downward into the
dark tunnel that is his mind.
Ecstasy as I can't control the speed at which I spiral.
I am a happy kid in an amusement park.
I'm just tall enough to go on every ride.

He is my morning, noon and night.
The stir fry I make in the morning with this onion.
Left overs for lunch.
I need him in it because
He's the flavour of my life.
I love him and I don't care if he's complicated.
The knife of emotion cuts him to shallots.
The knife of emotion summons my tears.
My hand holds it and keeps cutting.
Through my kitchen window the sunrise shines.
My new day dawns with expectation.
My roller-coaster ride will never stop.
He simply is.
