The Deep Underground Mass Exodus - Goodbye, Jack and Hugh
Every morning when I wake up, I thank God for another day and ask him for some help with other things if my ADD allows me to stay in connection with him. Then I check my texts to see if there's a message from a certain someone. If there is, I smile. Then I light a Marlboro, put on some coffee, take a shit, take my medicine, and call the baby mama to check on my son. Then I sit down here, at my makeshift desk, open my laptop and debate whether to re-read yesterday's novel chapter and continue writing or jump on facebook and DU.
The latter has won out the past few days. Yesterday I learned that Jack (and Missy) were bouncing. To me, Jack has always been synonymous with DU. There are three people here who have helped me with my writing more than anyone. Jack's one of them. He's also become a dear and trusted friend so I was pissed when I saw that the DU drama had driven him out.
This morning I learned that Hugh, aka Hemi aka deathproof, is packing it in as well. Hugh is my favorite living writer (Bukowski's my favorite dead, but you already know that if you've been reading me.) He's also become a friend but not the way that Jack has. Jack and I discuss life. Hugh and I discuss writing and while he is my favorite to read, he is also my favorite to receive critique from. Hugh's guidance has been priceless in my growth as a writer.
Jack and Hugh, you guys will truly be missed and if Jamie aka Panama decides to bail out of DU as well, there might not be any sensible reason for me to stay either, unless it's just to read ego feeding comments on my work.
