Shadow Demon

Icicle tears frozen on my chapped cheeks
Eyes closed wearily
I’m cold and empty now
Heart and spirit beaten and battered
Bundled in the only sweater I own
As the twinkling snow falls all around
Completely numb, I’ve gone
Resting on this cold wet bench
Curious where it came from
Lighted by this shining light

But my light is dimmed by a shadowy figure
A figure I haven’t seen in years
A Ouija game gone amiss
We played and laughed never believing
But walking home late that winter night
This shadowy figure behind me the entire time
Cold and dark he gave my heart a pounding
The air was still-Unmoving
I faced this demon for but a second
He was so dark he was hard to see
Only shadows outlined his being
I was sure if I reached for him
My hand would flow right through
He disappeared but I knew he’d be back
Because he had not gathered my soul that darkened night

So here I sit as I watch him glide
Before I know he’s by my side
My lighted lamp no longer burns
Turned to darkness it is gone
The only light- snowflake glimmers off his evil eyes
My breath freezing as it’s let out
Misty and chilling as he watches
Waiting for the last breath I take
He says not one word to me
As my tears slip down turning to ice
Welding upon my numbed cheeks
What is it with my soul he desires?
Our Ouija game was just a joke
But I’ve learned now as He watches me
There is no joking with the gates to hell
And silently I watch as the dark pit opens
With just a wave of his dark unseen hand
I hold out my hand for him to take
And give up my soul he’s now come for
