The Bitter End

Love can turn bitter in the end
within a beating heart, the soul screams
wanting to be free, it simmers with hatred
discontentment, resentment
like a spreading cancer in the mind

odium can fester deeply, so profound
within so intense, smiles cover it neatly
no seams seen of its bitterness
words soft spoken makes for poultice
to hide the glowering hate within

Nothing can sweeten the heart then
Nothing can soothe the soul
When there is umbrage against infidelity
Or words of secret unshared
Or moments where tongues are loose

The End can be Bitter
Or one can stay till the Bitter End
Before the bitterness will be pain
And before that heaven
In the beginning… ecstasy.
